How life coaching can help you answer the age ole question, Who am I?

In reading Don Miguel Ruiz's "The Three questions", I came across chapter 8 which is titled, "The Commander in Chief", and noticed I had a few fresh perspectives.  The Commander in Chief is considered the position of the president of the United States.  To most it is a position of power and sometimes prestige depending on your perspective.  To others its a position that no one wants as it includes many responsibilities that frankly most people don't care to take on for obvious reasons. So how does this chapter in this book help to answer the popular question, "Who am I"?

In essence you are the commander in chief of your own personal government.  You are in charge of how you manage your thoughts, actions, and how you take care of your body.  You decide how to react to others that want to be part of your own personal government.  You make your own rules and set the boundaries you wish others to respect.  This might seem difficult to understand at first but let me give you some more perspectives.

As the leader of your own personal government (yourself), you have expectations and responsibilities.  How you treat yourself will ultimately decide how your life will flow.  If you standby and let things (bad thoughts, unhealthy habits, etc.) dictate your personal outcome then you have not made the best decisions possible as your own leader.  If you are controlled by outside influence and your decisions are hindering you instead of helping  you that is when chaos will ensue.  Some of the best commanders/leaders have to navigate through all the chaos while keeping in mind the best interests of those they lead. In this example YOU as the leader of YOU needs to have YOUR best interests in mind.  Every decision you make for yourself will have a consequence (good or bad or indifferent).

So in essence the first answer to "who am I?", could then be:  I am my own commander in chief. I am aware that my journey through this life is under my control more than I think it is.  Circumstance or "things" that happen to me are NOT the reasons that I am where I am today.  The actions I have taken and the way I have reacted to such "things' is the real reason for the current outcome.  If you live in constant fear, denial, victim hood, and reactive mode then YOU don't have the opportunity to control the possible outcomes that are more favorable.  If YOU let "things" work their way out then the possible outcomes are left to chance.

As I coach my clients I use my intuition to ask powerful questions that will enable them to "make life altering decisions".  One of the top questions clients have are " How do I know what I'm supposed to be doing?" another is "How do I find my passion?".  These questions are in line with the original question, " Who am I?".  If you have these burning questions let me ask you a few to consider:

1. Who do you think you are NOT?

2. What do you think you are NOT supposed to be doing?

3. What is NOT your passion?

These three questions will produce multiple answers that will fill up a page or two in a journal.  They begin to turn the wheel of thought and perspective.  In order to find what you are meant for YOU must answer what you are NOT meant for.

If you are unhappy at your current job or career is it because you are miserable with it? Or is it because it is not fulfilling? Is it not challenging anymore? Are you just collecting a pay check? Are you burnt out ? Or, maybe just maybe, deep down you know you are meant for something even greater?  A higher purpose.....

I challenge you to dig deep and ask yourself the powerful questions that you might be afraid to answer or confront.  Fear is a natural response to the unknown but remember behind each door of possible opportunity is a chance for YOU to experience a desired outcome.  This time as you open the door it's YOU taking the action and receiving the rewards because YOU took the chance and didn't let "circumstance" control the outcome.  What will you do going forward? My desire is that you make life happen and control your own destiny.

Love your journey....

The Art of Letting Go

There is a time and a place when you come to that fork in the road.  That ultimate crossing of different paths you are looking to take.  The fear is all too real in your mind and you feel the tension percolating through your nervous system.  What makes this moment of anxiety so painstakingly at times insurmountable?  Why does the logical mind sometimes not align with what the heart wants? What is it that pulls us to and from the correct or incorrect decision.  Is the answer as simple as the emotion we know as FEAR?      Many clients that I coach come to me for help when they feel stuck and unsure of how to take that next step.  Most of the coaching in the beginning is to help them identify those limiting beliefs that are holding them back.  There are plenty of self imposed barriers created by those beliefs. They are subconsciously buried  in layers of self judgement and self doubt. The main root cau...

Finding Your True Purpose: Using Your Natural Gifts & Talents To Inspire Others

What is it about certain stories that have a profound impact on some of the ways we connect to its characters?  We love the stories about the fallen hero that makes the ultimate comeback and ends up saving the world from near destruction.  We become infatuated with the dreamer that wants to prove their artistic value and be accepted by the same world that has kept them down.       In my recent travels I had the opportunity to re-watch two movies on the plane as I had two hour flights both ways.  Normally I would read my books and write but this time I wanted to do some research by reflecting on these two stories.  The first movie I took in was "The Gladiator" with the main actor Russell Crowe portraying a highly regarded and decorated Roman military leader with aspirations to fulfill his duty and ultimately retire and return to his wife and son in a humble countryside home.  In the opening scene Russell's character Maximu...
