When Opportunity Knocks, Will You Be Ready?

There is a popular belief that the right or perfect opportunity doesn't come around often or even comes around at all.  Some people tend to wait around for that chance to somehow show up one day when the timing is right.  Others go create their own opportunities in a proactive manner.  Where might you be on this spectrum?  Are you possibly the one waiting for the opportunity to come knock at your door?  Are you maybe the one who continuously seeks opportunities and is willing to try anything? Or maybe you are a calculated opportunity seeker who measures and analyzes constantly?  Or maybe, just maybe you are the one that did not answer that "knock on the door" in the past and have regretted it since then?  My hope in this blog entry is that I can share some perspectives with you on " Being ready to answer " when an opportunity knocks.       At times I've had clients come to me with regret due to a missed opportunity from the past and are eager to make a

Finding Your True Purpose: Using Your Natural Gifts & Talents To Inspire Others

What is it about certain stories that have a profound impact on some of the ways we connect to its characters?  We love the stories about the fallen hero that makes the ultimate comeback and ends up saving the world from near destruction.  We become infatuated with the dreamer that wants to prove their artistic value and be accepted by the same world that has kept them down.       In my recent travels I had the opportunity to re-watch two movies on the plane as I had two hour flights both ways.  Normally I would read my books and write but this time I wanted to do some research by reflecting on these two stories.  The first movie I took in was "The Gladiator" with the main actor Russell Crowe portraying a highly regarded and decorated Roman military leader with aspirations to fulfill his duty and ultimately retire and return to his wife and son in a humble countryside home.  In the opening scene Russell's character Maximus is walking through a wheat field and is tou

The Art of Letting Go

There is a time and a place when you come to that fork in the road.  That ultimate crossing of different paths you are looking to take.  The fear is all too real in your mind and you feel the tension percolating through your nervous system.  What makes this moment of anxiety so painstakingly at times insurmountable?  Why does the logical mind sometimes not align with what the heart wants? What is it that pulls us to and from the correct or incorrect decision.  Is the answer as simple as the emotion we know as FEAR?      Many clients that I coach come to me for help when they feel stuck and unsure of how to take that next step.  Most of the coaching in the beginning is to help them identify those limiting beliefs that are holding them back.  There are plenty of self imposed barriers created by those beliefs. They are subconsciously buried  in layers of self judgement and self doubt. The main root cause can be attributed to many different aspects, but I believe attachments are a

Limiting Beliefs: How Do They Hinder Our Growth

One of the biggest hurdles for my clients to overcome is the lack of confidence due to the limiting beliefs that are heavily rooted in their minds. I say in their minds because that is essentially the issue in its entirety.  It is all a specific mindset that has evolved overtime.  The seeds are planted early (sometimes in young childhood) once people are able to connect actions and thoughts into their own perspectives and beliefs.  People are told what they can or can't do.  If their thoughts are against their own cultural norms then they are told to think differently and change who they want to be or do.  This is all part of the domestication process and it has been going on since the beginning of time.  Regardless of one's beliefs there has always been a certain "way' to be, do, and act.  The freedom to think outside the box has never really been encouraged unless it is for the greater good of humanity and can ultimately be controlled.  I am not saying that this

Commencement: The act of starting out, or blazing a new trail.

In the spirit of college and high school graduation season I want to explore the ties between commencement ceremonies and life changing perspectives.        I sometimes get clients that are experiencing a new part of their journey. They are moving from one experience to another one. Just as a graduate finishes their studies and is ready to take on the new challenge of using what they have learned over the last few years. There are many emotions associated with this accomplishment. Some feel energized and others feel uneasy and maybe even unsure of where to begin.       The same could be said of those who are transitioning in other parts of their lives. This could be a new job, a new career path. They could be looking for a fresh start due to an ending relationship or even a start of a health journey due to past illness. Either way they are “graduating “ from that life experience and taking what they have learned to use in their new path. This will also bring some excitement and for

How life coaching can help you answer the age ole question, Who am I?

In reading Don Miguel Ruiz's "The Three questions", I came across chapter 8 which is titled, "The Commander in Chief", and noticed I had a few fresh perspectives.  The Commander in Chief is considered the position of the president of the United States.  To most it is a position of power and sometimes prestige depending on your perspective.  To others its a position that no one wants as it includes many responsibilities that frankly most people don't care to take on for obvious reasons. So how does this chapter in this book help to answer the popular question, "Who am I"?     In essence you are the commander in chief of your own personal government.  You are in charge of how you manage your thoughts, actions, and how you take care of your body.  You decide how to react to others that want to be part of your own personal government.  You make your own rules and set the boundaries you wish others to respect.  This might seem difficult to understand

What Motivates You? Knowing Your Key Motivation Style Will Help You Along The Way

As a life coach one of my goals is to help clients find and develop the best version of themselves. Most of the work is done by the client as they look deep inside themselves to find the answers they seek.  My role is to provide fresh new perspectives and use my own intuition and experiences to help guide them through their specific life journey.  In order to gain a valuable coaching experience one important aspect needs to be known:  What is your motivation ? The answers are plenty as we are motivated by numerous things that we value.  They rank in importance depending where we are currently in life.  The next question is usually never asked , " What is your motivation style ?"  Let me define the six motivation styles first and then we can explore a few of them.     The six motivation styles are: * Intrinsic Motivation : doing something for the love of the activity, or for the internal satisfaction you get from doing it, rather than looking for or expecting an external
